Seeking House Management Team Members
The Des Moines Community Playhouse is seeking individuals to join a leadership team who together manage the public areas of a theatre and lead volunteer ushers. This is a part-time position with moments of high activity and paid rest once the performance begins. This position does not have a fixed schedule as individuals are only required for performances which are held on nights and weekends, averaging 3 weekends a month.
House Managers must be compassionate leaders with a sense of community towards volunteers, including people of diverse racial, ethnic, economic, LGBTQIA+ backgrounds.
The House Management Team divides the hours based on interest and availability to allow for maximum flexibility for each member. Typical performance schedule is Wednesdays – Saturdays evenings from 5:45 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sundays from 12:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for main theatre. Friday evenings from 5:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 11:45 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with break from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. for holiday’s and children’s theatre productions. Only one house manager is required at each performance.
The training and supervising ushers, being present in the lobbies, ensuring comfort and safety of patrons, responding to requests and needs as required, and filling out reports.
Strong communication abilities, technical savvy, organized, quick decision maker, and the capacity to work with a wide range of volunteers. Previous volunteer experience preferred, previous usher or house manager experience welcome.
Starting wage is $14.00 per hour. This job will require the applicant to clear a background check, once a job offer has been made.
